We don't have an actual photo class, however there are some students who have their own cameras and show an interest in photography, so once they've taken all of my classes I allow them to do sort of an independant study photography class.

Charcoal Sculpture

This is the second project for my drawing class. Here, they re-draw a classical sculpture in pencil, then fill in the values using charcoal.

Pastel Portraits

Pastel Portraits are done with my more advanced students. They work AT LEAST 16x20 and the objective is for them to match the colors of the portrait they choose as close as possible.

Distortion

The distortion project is also done with my advanced students. They are to choose a picture, cut it up, piece it back together, and re-draw it.

Reflective paintings

This is the third painting project I do with my painting class. They must choose a reflective object to paint. They should photograph it first and print it out so they are working from an image rather than real-life.

Pen and Ink

This is the third project I do with my drawing class. They will have already practiced charcoal and pencil drawing, and the techniques associated with pen and ink (hatching, cross-hatching, stippling, etc). Again, they choose a photo to re-draw using the learned techniques.

Pencil Drawings

This is the first project I do with my drawing class. They choose a famous painting to print in black and white and re-draw it, filling in the values using pencil.

Painting: Black and White Portraits

This is the second project I do with my painting students. They use oil paint and work with only value so they may become used to oil painting techniques.

Color and Design A: Oil Pastel Repetition

Oil pastels are tough, so I do this project last with my begining students in the color class. Their assignment is it find a picture that has the art principle "repetition" and re-draw it in oil pastel.

Painting: Impressionist Squares

This one can be tricky, and not all of them are gorgeous, but it helps the begining painting students learn color mixing. They choose an impressionist painting to re-paint, however their grid is 1/4 of an inch on the 8x10 printout, and is 1/2 an inch on their larger canvas. Each individual square should be painted only ONE color, and no 2 squares that are touching can have the same color in them, they must be at least SLIGHTLY different. You really have to watch the kids, because many of them will see a large area of one color and think they can get away wit painting a checker pattern, but that looks like crap so if you do this one don't let them paint checkers!

Color and Design A Colored Pencil Monochromatic Portraits

This is the second project I do with my begining color students. They draw a portrait in pencil, then fill in the values using all of the values of one color in colored pencil.

2 Point Perspective

This artwork was done as the first project for my Color and Design A class. It is a 2 point perspective project in which the students studied the art elements: color, value, line, space, shape, and form, and the art principles: balance and repetition.
They first learn 1 point perspective, then 2 point, and finally come up with a sketch for their larger drawing, then re-draw that one for their final project on larger paper and fill in the value and color with pastel.
